Verdant Energy Collaborates With Alt Valley Community Trust to Deliver Energy-Saving Advice

Verdant Energy have collaborated with a local charity, Alt Valley Community Trust, to deliver energy-saving advice to social housing tenants in St Helens, to support them to be energy-efficient. Employees from both organisations were out visiting tenants in their homes last week and plan to continue their visits this week.

Verdant Energy recently completed work on 127 social housing properties to make them more energy efficient. The work was completed under the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund and involved making numerous upgrades to the property to make it more energy-efficient. This included installing insulation, new windows and doors and smart heating controls, as well as several other measures.

Alt Valley Community Trust (AVCT), which works in collaboration with Verdant Energy, recently secured funding to deliver energy-saving advice to community members as part of the Energy Redress Project. We saw this as an opportunity to further support the tenants we had been working with and arranged one-hour sessions with some tenants.

Danielle Forman and Alan Johnson from AVCT, along with Ann Kinsella from Verdant Energy, visited the tenants in their homes and discussed how they were managing their energy usage currently, provided some tips and supported them with any queries/uncertainties.

These sessions will support tenants to manage their energy usage more efficiently off the back of receiving multiple upgrades to their homes, helping to reduce their energy consumption, save money on their energy bills and support reduce in their carbon footprint.

Ann Kinsella, Customer Liaison Officer at Verdant Energy, said:

“It was great to be in a position to offer the tenants this opportunity to give them some free energy advice as part of the Energy Redress Project. With ever-increasing energy costs, a large proportion of the cohort we work with can not afford to heat their home properly, so any advice to help lower their bills is a win-win.”

Danielle Forman, Chief Executive at Alt Valley Community Trust, said:

“At Alt Valley Community Trust, we’re passionate about supporting local people to live well in their homes. Collaborating with Verdant Energy gives us the opportunity to speak directly with residents, answer their questions and share simple, practical advice that can help them save energy and reduce household costs. These home improvements are a fantastic investment in the community, and by helping people understand how to get the best from them, we can help make an even bigger difference. It’s been great to meet so many tenants and we’re looking forward to continuing with more visits.”
