Last week Verdant Energy upskilled two of its team members whilst providing support to local charity, Alt Valley Community Trust, by insulating one of their community centres.
Stephen Murphy and Robert Birch are two long-standing team members of Verdant Energy. They are both skilled tradespeople and have worked on many projects under Verdant Energy, including ECO4, GBIS and Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund.
In order to comply with the new PAS 2030 guidance, they were required to complete NVQ Level 3 Internal Wall Insulation and NVQ Level 2 Cold Roof (loft insulation). As valued team members, we supported them to qualify by arranging for their training and assessment by a third-party provider.
As part of their assessment, they were required to complete work whilst being assessed. We saw this as an opportunity to give back to Alt Valley Community Trust (AVCT), with whom we closely work alongside, by providing them with loft insulation and internal wall insulation in their music room. Insulating the music room will not only provide a level of soundproofing but will also support a more consistent temperature year-round, helping the room keep warm in winter and cool in summer, as will the loft insulation.

This has allowed Ste and Robbie to level up in their skill set, attain a qualification in reflection, and ensure Verdant Energy is compliant with PAS 2030. It has also resulted in an improved facility for AVCT, which will help reduce their heating bills.
Internal wall insulation can reduce heat loss through walls by 35%- 45%.
It’s estimated that around 25% of heat is lost through the roof.

“Upskilling is an important part of this industry, and important to me personally, as I always want to complete work to the best of my ability. So being given the opportunity to do this, whilst supporting Alt Valley Community Trust is a win-win.”
Danielle Forman, Chief Executive at Alt Valley Community Trust, said:
“A heartfelt thank you to Verdant Energy for generously insulating our new music room at the Communiversity. Their support has created an additional space that is not only warmer in winter and cooler in summer, but also better soundproofed, making it an even more welcoming place for our creative young people to learn, create and grow.
Music has the power to build confidence, improve wellbeing, and bring people together. Thanks to Verdant Energy’s generosity, more local young people will have a comfortable, dedicated space where they can practise, develop their talents, and discover a lifelong love of music.
From all of us – thank you for helping us make a lasting difference.”
