Verdant Energy Supports Children to Stay Active Over Summer Holidays

During this year’s summer holidays, Verdant Energy and Neighbourhood Services Company (NSC) sponsored Alt Valley Community Trust’s (AVCT) Football Camp at the Vauxhall Neighbourhood Council (VNC) in Vauxhall, Liverpool.

VNC is one of Alt Valley Community Trust’s hubs. It is a long-established community anchor organisation based in the heart of Vauxhall, North Liverpool. Founded in 1997, VNC is a registered charity, created to serve local communities by providing advice, support, training, and opportunities for everyone to thrive.

The camp was free for all children who attended and welcomed children aged 7-14 from the local area.

There were over 35 children who took part in the football coaching sessions, matches and team-based activities led by four local coaches from the community. The camp provided a safe and positive environment for young people to stay active during the school holidays, develop their football skills, build confidence and make new friendships.

The programme also encouraged teamwork, communication and respect, while giving children the opportunity to engage with positive role models from their local area.

The camps helped remove financial barriers to participation and ensured local children could access free, high-quality activities during the school holidays, supporting their physical wellbeing, social development and connection to their local community.

Stephen McLean, from Alt Valley VNC said:

“Thanks to Verdant, we were able to run another free football camp for our local community over the summer holidays. It was great to see the kids enjoying themselves, keeping active, developing their football skills and confidence, and spending time with their friends in a positive environment.”
